AVOCADO MYLKSHAKE

I found a smoothie recipe by Aleyda Batarse, of The Dish on Healthy which was based on a recipe for Vietnamese Avocado Shake – which contains avocado, naturally, but also sugar and condensed milk. I wanted to keep the green but turn it into a protein-rich shake. Here’s the recipe:
INGREDIENTS
  • 1 cup of coconut mylk
  • 1/2 ripe frozen banana (peeled and sliced before freezing)
  • 1 tablespoon coconut butter
  • 1/2 large avocado (stone removed)
  • 1 cup of organic baby spinach
  • Yacon syrup to taste (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon hemp hearts
  • 1 scoop unflavoured protein powder
STEP-BY-STEP METHOD
  1. Put your coconut mylk  into your blender
  2. Add the sliced banana, avocado, baby spinach, coconut butter and hemp hearts
  3. Put in your scoop of protein powder
  4. Whizz everything together until smooth
  5. Add more liquid or a splash of water if necessary
  6. Put in the freezer for half an hour to chill

ALMOND CHOCOLATE MYLKSHAKE

There are so many tasty food combinations featuring almonds and chocolate it seemed rude not to turn them into a mylkshake. Here’s the recipe:
INGREDIENTS
  • 1 cup unsweetened almond mylk
  • 1/2 frozen banana, peeled and sliced
  • 2 tablespoons smooth almond butter
  • 1/4 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon unsweetened raw cacao powder
  • 1 scoop of protein powder (unflavoured, chocolate or vanilla works best here)
STEP-BY-STEP METHOD
  1. Put your almond mylk into your blender
  2. Add the sliced banana, almond butter, vanilla extract and cacao
  3. Put in your scoop of protein powder
  4. Whizz everything together until smooth
  5. Add more liquid or a splash of water if necessary
  6. Put in the freezer for half an hour to chill

SESAME VANILLA MYLKSHAKE

One of the things I really love about halva is the lovely dry and crumbly texture that comes from the sesame seeds. This mylkshake recreate the flavours but without the huge whack of sugar that you normally get too. Here’s the recipe:
INGREDIENTS
  • 1 cup unsweetened oat mylk
  • 1/4 frozen banana, peeled and sliced
  • 2 tablespoons raw light tahini (Carley’s is one of my favourites)
  • 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 scoop of protein powder (unflavoured or vanilla works best here)
STEP-BY-STEP METHOD
  1. Put your oat mylk into your blender
  2. Add the sliced banana, tahini and vanilla extract
  3. Put in your scoop of protein powder
  4. Whizz everything together until smooth
  5. Add more liquid or a splash of water if necessary
  6. Put in the freezer for half an hour to chill

BANANA CASHEW MYLKSHAKE

Nothing beats the creaminess of raw cashew nuts which have been soaked in water before being blended. Tthis is the ultimate thick shake and with the addition of ice cream (or soy ice) is the closest recipe to a classic milk shake.
INGREDIENTS
  • 1 cup unsweetened oat mylk
  • 1/2 frozen banana, peeled and sliced
  • 1/4 cup raw unsalted cashews, soaked in water for 3 hours
  • 1 scoop vanilla ice cream (Swedish glace have a fab soy vanilla ice)
  • 1 scoop of protein powder (unflavoured or vanilla works best here)
STEP-BY-STEP METHOD
  1. Put your oat mylk into your blender
  2. Add the sliced banana, cashews and vanilla ice cream
  3. Put in your scoop of protein powder
  4. Whizz everything together until smooth
  5. Add more liquid or a splash of water if necessary
  6. Put in the freezer for half an hour to chill
